Happy Birthday to Libertas Mixed Choir!

Last night  the mixed choir Libertas from Dubrovnik held a concert in the  the most beautiful Concert Hall in the world, the Rector's Palace in Dubrovnik and so celebrated its 35th anniversary.
It was solemnly and dignified.
Words cann't describe how much love was woven into all these 35 years of work by the members of the choir who are just amateurs. I am proud to be a part of it.

CABLE CAR TO SRĐ

Croccantino

Ah I'm lazy! Whole month passed from my return from Budapest and I should write something about this beautiful city but I just can't force myself to start. Well, here're few words in my defense. I'm constantly somewhere, last weekend I was on the peninsula Peljesac (near Dubrovnik), at the same time I'm am preparing a trip to London for Christmas, New Year in Prague ..... So it's not just laziness.
But here's one short review of a nice pastry shop in a small, very beautiful and well-known tourist place Orebic located on the sea side of the Peljesac peninsula.
Like everywhere on the Croatian coast tourist season is over. And so it is in Orebic, peace and quiet. I wanted to eat something sweet, and since everything was closed, I didn't hope to my wish come true.

And then we found opened pastry shop Croccantino.
The choice was not great as it probably would have been in the heart of the summer season, but I still chose a tasty cake that satisfied my desire for sweets.
I must admit I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of full service. So if your trip takes you to Orebic - visit Croccantino.

Sokol grad - Sokol Tower

This fort found itself under Dubrovnik rule in 1420 and was immediately submitted to further construction – rebuilding of certain parts, strengthening of others, arming and general maintenance. This fort survived unscathed the big earthquake of 1667. It is not mentioned in the 1672 archives as a military complex and it was probably abandoned around that time. As was customary in the region, the locals used the stones of the fort to build their homes and smaller walls, so Fort Sokol was heavily deconstructed. The ruins of the fort have been placed under state protection and are maintained in their present condition. This is a bit information I collected and I actually I don't know almost anything about this valuable monument. It was restored and opened to visitors last year.


The first nice, and not too hot, day I chose to visit it and I'm really glad I did it. This is admirable!

Chickpeas

This is a very simple dish and I love it the most. I cook it every Friday and can't wait another and eat it again, yummy.

Here's my recipe which I inherited from my grandmother and mother.

- Soak the chickpeas in lukewarm salted water for several hours (maybe about 6 hours)
- Cook in the same water in which it was sunk
- When it boils throw the first water, rinsed chickpeas, change the water and then put chickpeas in

it to cook again
- Add onion, garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, olive oil, carrots, sodium bicarbonate (tip of knife), one vegetable cube and potatoes.

If it's too watery put a little millet to become denser. And vuolla!

Rice salad

Recently I saw this recipe of rice, vegetables and cheese and loved it right away. I like to add new things on my every day menu but actually this isn't anything new just arranged in some other way.
I went to the store to buy everything according to the recipe but I didn't find all that was needed so I dared to change things and give to this meal my "touch".

Recipe:
rice
corn
feta cheese
cheery tomatoes
salt, pepper, parsley, olive oil.

Since I stubbornly decided to do this today, and I didn't find the corn, instead I took a frozen mixed vegetables which consists of corn, peas, green beans and mini carrots (I love mini carrots).
I mixed it up all and it turned out to a very tasty salad. This salad can always be served as good a side dish to meat or fish.

Zucchini Flower - Pupatori

Until the next sequel of the story of Rome here is one very simple dish that can be served as a side dish and it's very easy to make, and it's tasty, at least to me.
My family likes it when I prepare Pupatori (Dubrovnik's term)

So we need:
zucchini flower
eggs
flour
salt

Wash Pupatori, shake out and dry. Mix whole eggs and flour, add salt. Each flower just pull through the mixture and fry in a well-heated oil.
Arrange them on paper towel to absorb excess fat and then serve.

Hazelnut Cake with chocolate cream

Here's one recipe of the cake that I love as well as all my family and friends. I found this recipe when my daughter turned one year (for her first birthday) and since then  every year this cake is on our table.

Ingredients: 
7 eggs
300 grams of sugar
300 grams of hazelnuts
  2 tablespoons bread crumbs

Filling:
4 eggs
250 grams of sugar
200 grams dark chocolate
250 grams of butter

Mix egg yolks and sugar, add ground nuts and bread crumbs and mix it all together. Add beaten egg whites. Grease the cake pan with butter and sprinkle with bread crumbs, pour  prepared mixture in the pan and bake it at 150 degrees Celsius for 60 minutes. When the cake is baked, cool it and cut it into two equal parts.

Filling: sugar, eggs and melted chocolate mix and cook on the stove, stirring constantly till it thickens.
Remove from the heat and continue to stir until it slightly cooled.
Mix the butter separately, add to the cooled mass of eggs, sugar and chocolate and continue to stir until it is completely cooled. Stuff the cake and cover the entire cake with the remaining mixture and decorate it as you wish.

Nice, pleasant place where you can consume very yummy ice cream. Price of ice cream is very reasonable. Besides ice cream, you can order a banana split, pancakes with ice cream, jam or chocolate, it's your choice, fruit salad with ice cream and other various sweets. Coffee is also good, to be honest I don't know the exact price but I think it was about 10 kunas which is about 1,5 Euro.

In the summer in this candy store there is often a long line of people waiting for a sweet bite. Worth of wait. This pastry shop is located in the historic part of town, within the city wall.

Marry Christmas - Sretan Božić!!!!!

International opera festival "Hommage Tino Pattiera"

International opera festival named "Hommage Tino Pattiera" from 03rd to 06th July 2013th was held in Dubrovnik. Many interpreters that performed this and previous years are prominent members of the European opera houses, professors at music academies and universities. The festival is named after Tino Pattiera who was one of the best and most popular opera singers in Europe. Born 1890th in Cavtat (a small town near Dubrovnik) where he died 1966th year. He was the lead singer of the Royal Saxon Court Opera in Dresden and at that time a major competitor to Italian tenor Enrico Caruso. During the three nights of the festival, we had the opportunity to hear superb performances. The last evening of the festival was dedicated to the master of the opera Giuseppe Verdi on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of his birth.

Performers were Symphony Orchestra Albanian National Theatre of Opera and Ballet, conductors Noorman Widjaja Mo, Mo Zhani Ciko and Mo Nikolai Žličar.
It was unforgettable!

Croatia-28th star of the European Union

After long years of negotiations, expectations  and hoping, last night Croatia  finally joined the EU and thus become the 28th star in the European sky.
On this occasion all over the country the Ceremonies were organized. So the Dubrovnik gave its contribution to this celebration with the performance of Dalmatian Klapa, Folk Dance Ensemble Linđo and Mixed Choir of Libertas. At midnight  the EU hymn  Ode to Joy was sung.
It was a nice atmosphere. My God let it keep it that way!
