Lido di Venezia

For years I was planning to visit Venice and something always stopped me. This year I was determined to see Venice and over, I bought tickets and there was no turning back. I'm going to Venzia!
While I was looking for the hotel to stay in, I was thinking whether to take some in the center of Venice, or some located on the one of surrounding islands. And then I remembered the novel of Thomas Mann's Death in Venice. I remembered the film that Luchino Visconti made following the story from the novel.
The story is about middle age composer Gustav von Aschenbach who, while staying in Venice, platonically falls in love with a boy of exceptional beauty Tadzija. Aschenbach at the beginning trying to convince himself that his interest for a boy is only aesthetic, but soon becomes obsessed by him. In Venice cholera epidemic breaks out, and although he recognizes the dangers for his own life, he doesn't want to leave, but stays and at the end dies. Here is in short story which left an impression on me at the time I read the book and watched the movie. Over the years I forgot it, so much passed through my life since then, but at the moment of decision about accommodation in Venice, pictures have revived and I picked hotel on the island of Lido di Venezia.

Lido Island is located just across the Venice. From the dock at which we arrived from the airport can be clearly seen known vistas of Venice. At the end of 19th century Lido became a luxury seaside resort, most hotels and villas on the island were constructed at that time.
I couldn't resist and first I began to explore the island. I heard about the long sandy beach, but when I saw it I was speechless. 11 km long sandbar seemed to me as there is no end.
I wanted to see the place where movie was shot so I went to the Hotel Des Bains, but I didn't manage to have a coffee on its terrace, the restoration work were in progress ...
Never mind, another time!
